HANDS HOLDING GREEN HEART SHAPED TREE

The drive towards a green industry

A new report from the office of the Premier of South Australia describes the state's new plan to reduce emissions to zero by 2050, following a recommendation by the South Australian Low Carbon Experts Panel.

"The Expert Panel's report is a roadmap for our state to reduce emissions in a way that supports job growth in new and emerging green technologies," the Premier Mr Weatherill stated.

"The state's abundant renewable electricity combined with its rich resource base and existing manufacturing expertise mean that the state could be a natural base for energy intensive mining and manufacturing industries in a low carbon world."

Green is good for business

It is not just governmental mandate that suggests green is the direction for forward-thinking businesses to pursue. Teys Australia has recently invested $60,000,000 into its wastewater treatment plants in order to create a more sustainable business model.

"Our research… shows customers are more willing to work with companies committed to improving social and environmental outcomes," Charles Hollingworth, group manager of corporate affairs and environment for Teys, said in a November 25 NAB Agribusiness View article.

It is not just the environment that benefits from this new green direction. Businesses with a smaller carbon footprint can draw in the new generation of conscientious clients.

Big business, small business

While Teys is capable of spending large figures on improving its facilities, there is room for small to medium businesses to walk the green road too. From recycling to organic materials, going green is not just a good idea for the planet, it can also be good for your bottom line.

With this new report and direction from the government, South Australia is also aiming to not only beat back climate change, but to improve the state's economy at the same time.
